                                             Why is this important?

Both employers and students want the match to be ideal and the work experience to be                                                    mutually beneficial. In some circumstances, it may be advantageous to hire a student                                                    who has never worked for your company; a diverse work history can help students                                                    develop a wide variety of skills and better prepare them for the transition to the labour                                                    market after graduation.

Tips:

1. Consider hiring students who have worked for you in the past on an unsubsidized basis and let them train the new     employees you have hired under the SEED program. A student who has worked for your organization in the past will     make an excellent mentor for the subsidized students you hire. This will also increase your pool of qualified     employees for future positions.

2. When you have made a hiring decision, make sure you connect with the Department of Post-Secondary Education,     Training and Labour central office to immediately confirm the student placement. You can contact them at
    1-833-971-7333 or by email at NBSEED@gnb.ca .

3. Magnet. The province of New Brunswick has just introduced a recruitment tool to help you to find the right talent to
grow your business. Magnet provides an accurate, fast and cost effective (free) platform for employers to recruit and
communicate with the right talent through  Magnet's skill matching model.

NEW!
In many cases, students apply to more than one employer in order to maximize their chances of getting a summer job quickly. It is therefore strongly recommended that you follow up as soon as possible with the students you have selected to fill the position offered to avoid having these students accept the offer from another employer.
