- Networking:
This is the point where you should be acting on all the information you have
collected. Take any training that is required, find opportunities to gain relevant
employment experience, network with people in the career field you are pursuing
and build your professional support network.
Timelines and establishing very clear and specific goals (research SMART goals)
are very important to your success.
Why is this important?
Good planning and thorough reserach are very important but people can get caught
in a "analysis paralysis" loop where they overthink their plan and become afraid to
try in case they may fail. As will be discussed in the next step, nothing a person
learns is a waste of time if they can transfer that experience or skill into something
positive. There can be a lot of effort to this step, but it is the most rewarding.
Tips:
1. Develop a system of priorities, timelines and tasks and keep a record of them. Disorganization is a key barrier to
attaining one's goals. It also serves as a positive reminder of how much progress you have made when you have
something to refer to in case your motivation dips.
2. Don't be afraid to ask for help. If you encounter a barrier in your career path, ask friends, family and/or career
practitioners to help you problem solve.
